- Smita is a leading contemporary Indian writer. She was a part of the writers room for Netflix's ground-breaking first Indian original series, Sacred Games. Her original feature crime drama, Raat Akeli Hai, was produced by MacGuffin Pictures and starred Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte. It was released in 2020 on Netflix to widespread critical and commercial acclaim and was one of the most-watched Netflix films in India that year. The screenplay for the film was among the top 10 finalists for the Mumbai Mantra-CineRise Screenwriting Programme 2015. A screenwriting alumnus of the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Smita has also previously worked in the capacities of an assistant director and creative associate on numerous programmes for leading national and international TV channels. Smita is currently in production on her original series, a thriller for Amazon Prime Video, as the creator and showrunner.
