Julio Pereira(II)

Julio Pereira was born in Portugal and moved to London in 2000. He initially studied Music and Psychology before earning an BA (Hons) degree in Film and Media from Birkbeck, University of London. His career began at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, where he worked as a Theatre and Audiovisual Technician. He has directed documentaries on philosopher and psychoanalyst Slavoj Zizek and designer Roger K. Burton, as well as several short films and advertising pieces. Returning to Lisbon in 2011, Julio continued his career as a Writer/Producer for Fox International Channels and National Geographic. In 2016, he dedicated himself fully to filmmaking, creating four short films that screened at international festivals-two of which received awards, and one that was selected for the Cannes Short Film Corner in 2018. He also produced four short documentaries for Channel News Asia (Singapore), featuring chefs José Avillez and Henrique Sá Pessoa, along with two Portuguese artisans. Julio has directed numerous music videos and commercials, and produced and directed several episodes of the Channel 4 (UK) programs A New Life in the Sun and Help! We Bought a Village. After moving to Barcelona in 2022, he won Best Microcorto at the L'Alternativa Film Festival (CCCB) and became a finalist at the TMB Film Festival Barcelona. His recent documentary "A Cor da Liberdade", which explores the Portuguese dictatorship, won the Audience Award at the Political Film Festival. His environmental storytelling project with Seathefuture showcases his commitment to ocean preservation.
