Biography

Matt Eberflus

Mini bio

  • Matt Eberflus was born on May 17, 1970 in Toledo, Ohio. He and his wife, Kelly, have two daughters, Grace and Giada. He began his football career as a starting linebacker at Toledo where he was a four-year letterman. In his collegiate playing career he led the team in tackles in his Junior and Senior years and served as the team's captain as a senior along with taking home the Nicholson Trophy for contributing the most towards the success of the team. After graduation, Eberflus stayed at his alma mater where he moved up the ranks from student assistant, to graduate assistant, to full time recruiting coordinator and outside linebackers coach. In his seven seasons as a full time coach in Toledo, Eberflus was part of a winning record each season with a defensive unit that boasted a 56-22-2 record. Eberflus then moved onto the University of Missouri where he served as the defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach before moving up to assistant head coach/defensive coordinator/safeties coach. His time in Missouri resulted in two Big 12 North Division titles in 2007 and 2008.

Eberflus entered the pro ranks as the linebackers coach for the Cleveland Browns before moving to the Dallas club in 2011. Since his arrival in Dallas, Eberflus has overseen the development of All Pro linebacker DeMarcus Ware and Sean Lee. His first season ended with the line backing unit including five of Dallas' top ten tacklers coming from the linebacker position. His successful guidance of the line backing unit led Dallas to give him the responsibility of being the passing game coordinator, giving him substantial influence over the coverages of the linebackers and secondary. Eberflus continues to be an integral part of the Dallas defensive line.
