Biography

The tall and eccentric Beppo Küster was born in Flensburg in 1950. From when he was eleven he received violin lessons from his father, who was a conductor. In 1968 he began studying mathematics and chemistry at the Köthen University of Education. Between 1972 and 1975 he worked as a teacher in Cottbus, but was dismissed from school due to disagreements with the school management. Then between 1975 and 1977 he served in the National People's Army. In 1977 he was a state licensed entertainer, working as a musical humorist from that point on, and in 1979 made his television debut in Da liegt musike drin with Heinz Quermann. In 1983 Arndt Bause wrote a song for Küster called "Absolute Stille". The song was a runaway hit. Küster's darkly funny song had a total of three performances on 'Bong'. Running around the stage in a nightgown, waistcoat, nightcap and bowtie, jumping about everywhere, he was captivating. His carefully planned choreography seemed spontaneous, his performance transcending pop, straight into avant-garde theatre. In 1984 Küster hosted the New Year's Eve Gala, and then in 1985 he hosted his own show. After that he made many TV appearances. Since 1990, he has been working as a freelance TV producer. In April 2019 he pretended to hang himself from a gallows to raise awareness for euthanasia. He lives in Grünheide
