Biography

Mickey Bond

Mini bio

  • Mickey Bond was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, She moved to the US as a young child with her parents, both physicians, and grew up in Newton, MA. She earned a B.A. in English from Colgate University and an MA in American Literature from the University of Michigan. Bond has appeared in several independent projects including Creature Finders: The REAL Area 51 and OffSet Web Series. Bond moved to Santa Fe in 1994 where she is a mixed media artist, educator and long-time member of the Santa Fe Women's Ensemble, an elite group who sing a classical repertoire. "My artwork grows from experimentation with different media. These days I'm working with photo transfer and acrylic paint," said Bond. "The technique allows me to use my own Iphone images as a starting point." The paintings are colorful and often whimsical. "Each piece tells a story, Bond shared. "I have one series called "Somewhere in New Mexico" that features animals from the Albuquerque zoo out of their cages. There's a Zebra in a broken down adobe building and a Rhino in the garden of the same abandoned house." The zebra looks very much at home in a scene tinted like a vintage postcard. "Storytelling is the link connecting my art forms," says Bond. "Ensemble singing uses many voices to tell a story, film work also requires the work of many people. In my studio I'm the storyteller and I want my audience to look more than once." Bond is launching a new art space in Santa Fe for hands on teaching and "art experiences" such as themed painting parties. Bond teaches mixed media workshops in Santa Fe, Abiquiu and in Memphis at the Jay Etkin Gallery which represents her artwork.
