Greg Boustead (2023 News & Doc Emmys)

Biography

Greg Boustead

Biography

  • Greg Boustead is an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning documentary producer. He founded Sandbox Films in 2019 to tell more artful and inclusive stories about science and the natural world. Until leaving to pursue independent projects in 2024, Greg oversaw all aspects of the company - from editorial direction and on-location production to general strategy and green-lighting projects. Greg's 20+-year career in science journalism spans editorial, production, and writing. He's played key roles on many feature-length documentaries - including as executive producer for "Fire of Love" (which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature in 2023); "Andre Is an Idiot" (which won the Audience Award and the Special Jury Prize for Editing at Sundance in 2025); "Human Nature" (which was nominated for three Emmys and acquired by Netflix); "Fireball" (a documentary directed by Werner Herzog that was acquired by Apple+); "Fathom" (which won the Emmy Award for Best Sound in a Documentary in 2022); and "Nocturnes" (which won the Special Jury Prize for Craft at Sundance in 2024). Greg is also contributing producer and helped put together the initial teams for "Underland," a documentary feature based on the globally bestselling book, which premiered at Tribeca in 2025, and was produced by Darren Aronofsky ("Black Swan"; "The Whale") and Spring Films ("The Act of Killing").
