- Madhu Makkar née Varma is an Indian actress born in 1947 in Bombay, India. She is best known for having played the female lead opposite veteran actor Shashi Kapoor in the film Insaaniyat (1974). She was married to character actor Surinder Makkar with whom she has a son, Sid Makkar. Madhu was married to Surinder until his death in 2019.
Madhu is a part of the Varma family, which includes members that have had careers in the Bollywood industry as producers, distributors, actors, film directors, writers and film editors. The Varma family began working in the film industry in the late 1940s and continues into the 2020s; the family has had a staying power that has extended to more than seven decades.
As the daughter of Munshiram Varma, one of the founders of Varma Films and a patriarch of the Varma family, Madhu is a biological descendant of the Varma family.
