Biography

Scott Withers

Mini bio

  • Scott Withers is a four-time national Emmy Award-winning journalist, meteorologist, and author. Over a two-decade network news career, he worked as a producer and reporter for ABC News, contributing to programs including 20/20, World News Tonight, and Good Morning America, before reinventing himself as an on-air meteorologist and climate correspondent. He has covered many of the most significant weather disasters in the United States, including major land falling hurricanes, Midwest tornado outbreaks, the Maui wildfires, and catastrophic flooding. He served as Senior Meteorologist and National Climate Correspondent for Scripps News in Atlanta and currently appears as a meteorologist on the NEXT Weather team at CBS News Miami. Withers is also a published author and the founder of SWL Publishing. He wrote the hurricane survival memoir Ian's Surge, based on his near-death experience covering Hurricane Ian's 2022 landfall, and the award-winning children's series Cane The Weather Dog, which teaches young readers about severe weather safety. He earned a degree in meteorology and a master's in environmental geosciences from Mississippi State University.
