Biography

Ali Rizvi is a Houdini FX Artist and Technical Director known for his procedural, simulation-driven approach to visual effects. Born in Karachi, Pakistan, he pursued a background in Computer Engineering before moving to the United States in 2014 to complete a Master's degree in Visual Effects at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). The following year, he completed an internship at SideFX, training alongside mentors from Method Studios, an experience that deepened his command of Houdini and sharpened the technical foundation he would carry into his career.

Rizvi's technical work has since appeared across a range of major studio features. At Industrial Light & Magic, he built the binary energy shockwave effect for Captain Marvel, a sequence that appeared in the film's marketing trailer. His credits also include the schematic gauntlet blasts built for Shuri in Black Panther and the vegetation growth system he developed for Slumberland. At The Embassy VFX, he led one of the more technically demanding sequences of his career: the transformation and reveal of a supernatural creature inside an old mansion, combining procedural ash explosions, vector-driven particle systems, volume-advected smoke, and a growth-solver-based ghost-disintegration effect rendered in Redshift. Across his career, he has developed a broad body of fire, dust, explosion, and destruction effects, along with trigger-based automation systems used to streamline complex simulation setups.

He now mentors emerging artists at Vancouver Film School and Think Tank Training Centre, passing on the same specialized training that shaped his own start in the industry.
