Born in Brooklyn to Puerto Rican and Polish parents, Ryan M. Shaw grew up between New York, Puerto Rico and Texas, where he began singing, playing guitar and writing music. After high school, he joined the Army National Guard, serving six years as an infantryman and M240 gunner before using the GI Bill to study acting and set construction. He booked Blue Bloods during his first year of acting school.
Ryan went on to appear in Law & Order, FBI: Most Wanted, The Blacklist and a second episode of Blue Bloods, while building a film career in action, crime and horror. His credits include Blowback opposite Randy Couture and Cam Gigandet, Bring Him Back Dead, Ouija Witch, and the upcoming East of the River. His military background has proved unexpectedly useful on screen, where years of weapons training, combat experience and an enthusiasm for stunt work let him bring a little reality to characters who usually make questionable decisions.
Outside acting, Ryan is a singer-songwriter, baritone and guitarist with Harlan Shaw and develops original work through Harlan Shaw Productions. With Hedley Harlan, he co-directed and scored Mincemeat Manor, which received recognition from festivals including Oxford, Edmonton, Niagara, Lighthouse International and the International Independent Film Awards.
He is known for playing heroes, rockers, psychos and anyone else with a lot of soul and a wavering grasp of reality.
