Biography

Award-winning screenwriter Ron Hervey was born on September 15, 1962 in Bisbee, Arizona, to Doris (Coats) and Norris "Buck" Hervey. When he was 13 years old, his family moved to Irving, Texas where he graduated from Irving High School in 1982. After serving in the United States Marine Corps, Ron worked jobs in several fields, finally landing at a public library where he has worked for the past 21 years.

Ron has written all of his life, beginning when he dictated his version of Frankenstein to his mother when he was six years old. He had pinned several short stories and a novel was in the works before he turned his attention to screenwriting.

Ron created Copper Pen Pictures, LLC, in 2018. In association with Espinosa Entertainment, Copper Pen produced its first project, a short film written by Ron titled The Exit Bag, Plagued by delays, the project was finally finished after 16 months of production on January 27, 2019. The film made its world premiere at the Fort Worth Indie Film Showcase in July, 2019.

In 2019, his short screenplay Broken Dreams won Best Short Screenplay at the Red Dirt Film Festival in Stillwater, Oklahoma. In the same year it won Best Screenplay at the Calcasieu Parish Short Film Festival in Sulphur, Louisiana, Best Comedy Short Screenplay at the Fort Worth Indie Film Showcase, and top short screenplay at the Sunny Side Up Film Festival in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Broken Dreams came in second in the screenplay competition at the Rendezvous Film Festival at Amelia Island Florida. The script was a finalist at the Twister Alley Film Festival, Lake Charles Film Festival, Bare Bones International Film Festival, Austin Comedy Short Film Festival and the Houston Comedy Film Festival.

Ron's latest screenplay, Swamp Witch, won Best Screenplay at Rendezvous Film Festival in September 2019 and Best Short Screenplay at the Reel East Texas Film Festival in November 2019.
