Bernardo C. Villarreal is a Mexican screenwriter, producer, and film director specialized in auteur cinema, psychological thrillers, and genre filmmaking. Formed at the Vancouver Film School and credentialed in Business Management by the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), Villarreal masterfully balances compelling artistic vision with rigorous executive execution.
He is the founder and Head of Production of King Penacho Productions, a Mexican production house established to champion and elevate contemporary Latin American independent cinema. Through the company, Villarreal focuses on driving high-impact genre narratives and indie features toward the global market, utilizing meticulous structural tension to explore the darker complexities of the human condition.
Throughout his career, Villarreal’s cinematic work has earned significant international acclaim. His productions have been showcased globally, including the Official Selection at the Raindance Film Festival 2021 (with Bleed) and the Cannes Short Film Corner.
