Mini bio

  • Maíra Azevedo is an actress, journalist, speaker, comedian, and content creator from the state of Bahia. Also known as "Tia Má" on social networks, she began her career as a journalist because of her passion of communication. Over the years, after being recognized and encouraged by professional colleagues for her natural comedic talents, she decided to use comedy to address issues such as racism, xenophobia, and fatphobia in an intelligent and humorous way. From then on, Maíra gained notoriety on the internet, gaining over 1.2 million followers on Instagram, where she talks about female empowerment and self-love, besides discussing the fight against racial discrimination at length. Her talent soon took her to the stage, where she became the first Black woman in Brazil to perform stand-up comedy that discusses racial matters. Her show Tia Má com a Língua Solta sold out theaters across the country. In cinema, Maíra began her acting career with the film To the End (2020), in which she played Bel. In the same year, she released her first book, Como Se Livrar de um Relacionamento Ordinário? and also debuted on television on the segment Você Viu? on Encontro com Fátima Bernardes (Rede Globo). In 2021 and 2022, respectively, she was a commentator for Plantão BBB (Rede Globo) and went on to win prominent roles in shows and films such as Rensga Hits! (Globoplay), Unsuspicious (Netflix), Vale Night and Medida Provisória (directed by Lázaro Ramos).
