Bridget Johnson

Mini bio

  • Bridget Johnson is an award-winning Chicago-based director and writer dedicated to socially-driven storytelling. She was a Finalist for the Canon First Cut Contest (2025) for her documentary, The Search for My Dead Mom's Mysterious Fiancé. Her work has screened at notable venues including the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and AMC Times Square, reaching audiences both in festivals and online.

At seventeen, she founded Dare to Dream Productions with the mission of building a creative community for female and queer filmmakers while producing work that challenges perspectives and fosters empathy. She won Best Documentary at DePaul University’s Film Festival for Breaking the Barrier, a documentary short about a queer skate crew. Masterpieces, a documentary about slate roofing she co-directed screened at National Film Festival for Talented Youth.

Her breakout short, The Girl at the Library, has garnered over 1.2 million views on YouTube and screened internationally, including recognition at the Snowdance Independent Film Festival, where it won the 18 and Under category. Her additional work includes a PSA on catfishing that placed at the All American High School Film Festival.

A Summa Cum Laude graduate of DePaul University, Johnson is currently in development for a documentary series for The Search for My Dead Mom's Mysterious Fiancé and producing her first film film festival in Chicago. In her free time, you can catch her skating down Chicago streets, reading tarot at a cafe, or finding her next inspiration for a script.
