Biography

Born in London but of Neapolitan descent, Mariacarla relocates to Naples in 2016 to take part in MAD Entertainment's feature length animation "Cinderella the Cat". She has since collaborated with MAD as a concept artist, set designer and screenwriter for feature lengths and shorts. In 2023 she made her directorial debut with the animated short "Lizzie and the Sea".

Set designer and animation director Mariacarla is of British and Italian heritage. After graduating in architecture she makes the leap into the animation industry with the feature length "Gatta Cenerentola", produced by MAD Entertainment and Rai Cinema, for which she works primarily as a production coordinator and later as a member of the art department. The film is screened at the Venice Film Festival and wins multiple prizes at the David di Donatello, including Best Production and Best Special Effects. After collecting a number of experiences as screenwriter and concept artist, Mariacarla continues her collaboration with MAD Entertainment in the role of Lead Set Designer on the feature length "Yaya e Lennie - The Walking Liberty", directed by Alessandro Rak and presented at the 74th edition of the Locarno Film Festival as well as at Annecy International Film Festival 2022 in the Contrechamp category. Following this, Mariacarla tackles the role of Lighting Artist for the renown kids TV series "Food Wizards", produced by Rai Ragazzi and winner of the Pulcinella Awards at Cartoons on the Bay 2022. In 2023 she makes her directorial debut writing and directing her first animated short "Lizzie and the Sea", produced by MAD Entertainment and presented in the International Showcase category at Caroons on the Bay 2023. The short wins Best Animated International Short at Galway Film Fleadh.
