Biography

Isaac Hess is a former professional baseball pitcher and a youth baseball coach. Born in Phoenix, Arizona, he began having hip problems at age seven due to Legg-Calve-Perthes disease, and received a total hip replacement in his left hip at nineteen. He returned to the mound and pitched seven professional seasons, the first minor league pitcher to have had a total hip replacement. He played for the Windy City Thunderbolts, Newark Bears, Victoria Seals, Calgary Vipers, Winnipeg Goldeyes and Bridgeport Bluefish, as well as the Diablos Rojos del Mexico and Guerreros de Oaxaca in the Mexican League and Technika Brno in the Czech Extraliga. In 2008 he threw the first no-hitter in Thunderbolts history. He finished his career 44-24 with 518 strikeouts in 541 innings. He now coaches youth baseball and speaks to young athletes about competing through adversity.
