Mini bio

  • Julia Keesler is an award winning actress and filmmaker. Raised in a military family, she spent her childhood moving across the United States, an experience that fostered an early curiosity about people, place, and the stories that shape us.

After training at T. Schreiber Studio and the Shakespeare Theatre Company, and with a background spanning everything from corporate boardrooms to dive bars, Julia built a career as an actress while expanding into filmmaking.

She recently played the title role in Monica’s Painting where she portrays a quietly ambitious artist whose composed exterior masks a fierce longing to create something meaningful alongside the vulnerability of truly being seen. In psychological thriller Déjà Vu, we see her as a dry-witted young woman whose uncanny intuition blurs the line between prophecy and paranoia. Julia also plays an enigmatic young woman fighting against supernatural forces in psychological thriller Twine. Julia is drawn to emotionally complex women whose quiet composure conceals a fierce inner life, often bringing to the screen unconventional outsiders with a rebellious streak and an otherworldly edge.

As a filmmaker, Julia‘s fascination for intimate, character-driven stories set within immersive worlds has shaped her work. Produced independently on a self-funded budget and filmed entirely on location in New York City, her award-winning debut narrative short film Follow, If I Can explores the quiet lives of two women struggling with impossible choices, rebellion, and the cost of pursuing a life that doesn't fit convention, using the sweeping landscapes of the early nineteenth century to mirror the emotional distance, possibility, and sacrifice between the two.

A visual artist at heart, Julia also explores creating through design, photography and building objects by hand be it clothing, furniture or art. A lifelong maker, she approaches every creative medium with the same curiosity for craftsmanship, texture, and storytelling that informs her work on screen.
