Juan Carlos Alcantar is a screenwriter born in San Diego, California to Mexican-born parents, Juan Carlos Alcantar Sr. and Patricia Arangure. Raised between the borderlands of Tijuana and San Diego, his storytelling is shaped by the cultural duality and emotional richness of this unique region.
He first discovered the power of filmmaking at the age of ten, watching his uncle shoot a short film in a backyard-a formative moment that sparked his fascination with cinematic storytelling. That spark would later inspire La Plaza, his debut short film rooted in the lived realities of border town life, community resilience, and identity.
Much like his creative inspiration Martin Scorsese, Juan Carlos writes screenplays that explore cultural heritage, generational voices, and deeply personal themes through a visual and poetic lens. His work often centers on the Mexican and Mexican-American experience with bold honesty and lyrical depth.
He is currently attending Southwestern College, pursuing a degree in Microbiology, while continuing to develop original screenplays and freelance as a photographer in both San Diego and Los Angeles.
