Biography

  • Jill V. Dae is a writer, director, and producer from Hong Kong, now based in Los Angeles. Her genre-bending filmmaking fuses surrealism with social commentary, stemming from a background in photojournalism. Her directorial works have premiered at Oscar-qualifying festivals such as Palm Springs ("Honeywell"), LA Shorts ("The Discovery"), and HollyShorts ("DEI"), now on the festival circuit. In 2018, Jill was named "30 Under 30 Filmmakers to Watch" by the LA Film Awards for her debut short "Rebirth", which was curated by Southeastern University into their filmmaking curriculum.

As a writer, Jill's alternate history TV pilot "UMERIKA" was a Cinequest TOP 50 Finalist and won the Fresh Voices Screenplay Competition along with it's the Diversity & Inclusion Award. Her feature screenplay "Sonata" was both a 2019 Screencraft Film Fund and 2025 Women in Film x The Blacklist Feature Lab finalist. As a producer, Jill has under her belt multiple projects with distribution on AppleTV, Amazon Prime, Vudu, and DirecTV, making her a proud member of the Producers Guild of America. She is also a member of Alliance of Women Directors, Film Fatales, and Women in Film, of which she is a selected mentee of the WIF Mentoring Program.

Working globally as a tri-lingual third-culture kid, Jill unabashedly explores universal themes through a cultural kaleidoscope, holding a mirror up to society. Shaped by her global background and multidisciplinary artistic roots, she approaches filmmaking with a deeply collaborative spirit rooted in empathy and vivacity.
