Ex-Formula One racing driver, who raced for: Maria-Teresa de Filippis privé (1958 (2 GPs)), Scuderia Centro Sud privé (1958 (1 GP)) and Porsche (1959 (1 GP Not Qualified)). She started 3 Grands Prix.

Maria Teresa de Filippis started the 1958 Belgian Grand Prix from 19th place, becoming the first woman to start a Formula One race, and finished 10th, which was the first time a woman completed a Formula One race.

She was prevented from racing in the 1958 French Grand Prix by the race director was: "The only helmet a woman should wear is the one at the hairdresser's". This was the only time she was explicitly prevented from racing due to prejudice.

Maria Teresa de Filippis chose to retire from the sport in 1959 after the death of her friend Jean Behra and the earlier death of Alfonso de Portago. The alarming frequency of fatal accidents during that era as a primary reason for her decision, stepping away from racing at the age of 33.
