Geologist Dean Enderlin, Tebow's 4th cousin once removed, told the New York Times he has traced their shared ancestry to Andries Tibout, an ethnic Walloon from the modern-day Belgian region of Wallonia, who immigrated from Bruges to New Amsterdam (New York) in 1686 (some sources state Andries's father moved his family to New York after Andries was born). By the time Andries's great-grandson Pieter was born in 1755, the family's surname had changed to "Tebow". Pieter's son Uriah, through whom Tebow is descended, and his wife had moved from Paramus, New Jersey to Elizabethtown, Ohio by 1800. Tebow's paternal grandparents (both from Ohio) married on October 8, 1943 at the Dade County Courthouse in Miami, Florida, then returned to Ohio after Robert Tebow, Sr., was discharged from the Army Air Corps.
