Biography

Lygia Barbosa is a filmmaker with over 25 years of experience in the audiovisual market. She has worked on commercials, music videos, feature films such as Castelo Ratimbum, the Cao Hamburger film, and TV series such as 20 Poucos Anos (MTV Brasil), Os caminhos de Che, um diário de Motocicleta, Across the Amazon, Secret Brazil Pantanal (NATGEO) and De volta a Bikini (FOX). She was also the director of the daily program Zapping Zone on Disney Channel, and created and directed the children's animated series Caco e Dado on TV Cultura and Gloob. She directed with Eliane Brum and was the executive producer of "Laerte-se", Netflix's first original Brazilian documentary. As the winner of the KOCCA call, Korea Creative Content Agency directed and produced the documentaries Haenyeo, The Wisdom of the Sea and Korean Flavours Healing Mind and Body . For the Korean Broadcast Channel, she produced Tears from Favela, by Yun Chea Wan, and special reports on Venezuelan refugees, combating border crimes between Brazil and Paraguay, the impacts of Belo Monte and the pandemic in Brazil.

Produced by Ocean Films, she directed the series Mar Brazil, a journey along the Brazilian coast available on Canal Futura and Globoplay, presented by Luciano Candisani.

In co-production with South Korea and a Brazilian production company, she made Untenable Pantanal, with the participation of Luciano Candisani and selected in several international festivals.

For Grifa Films: Invaders, a film about invasive species broadcast on NHK Japan) and selected by the Science Film Festival 2024, Special Session Ecofalante Universities.

2024 Documentaries in Post-production of the: "Wallace, The Great Journey", filmed in Brazil, Indonesia and Malaysia, and Fisher's Voice (endorsed by UNESCO), filmed in 6 countries: Brazil, Indonesia, Philippines, Peru, and Mozambique, both supported by the Korean KCA fund, and Haroldo, O Poeta das Imagens, a film about the life and work of naturalist Haroldo Palo Junior.

Lygia is a volunteer on the board of the Women's League for the Ocean.
