Ex-Formula One racing driver, who raced for: Onyx (1989 (5 GPs)), Rial (1989 (2 GPs Not Qualify)), Coloni (1990 (10 GPs Not Pre-Qualify and 6 GPs Not Qualify)), Jordan (1991 (10 GPs)), Larrousse (1991 (1 GP Not Qualify)-1992 (16 GPs)) and Pacific (1994 (5 GPs)-1995 (11 GPs)). He started 47 Grands Prix, 1 Fastest Lap and 5 Points. Best ranked in the World Championship: 13th in 1991.

Gachot, Johnny Herbert and Volker Weidler were responsible for Mazda's first victory and the first for a Japanese manufacturer at the 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans.
