Trivia

  • Penned a letter to Wentworth's producers when the series was earmarked for renewal for the character of Reb Keane to be played by someone that was actually trans which causes a minor controversy in the fanbase as other series actor Socratis Otto played trans character Maxine Conway in which he was not trans. Terakes spoke about it in the Wentworth On File book saying that they wanted into the show to portray someone living "authentically" and "real". Terakes was then cast in the career defining role.
  • Penned an open letter to Randwick's City Council to allow all trans women to swim at the Randwick rock pools.
  • Penned an open letter in 2020 for the removal of Hugh Sheridan from Hedwig and the Angry Inch where over 1700 people signed the petition. Later Sheridan revealed that because of this it caused him to shut down for a while and consider harm. Terakes refused to comment on the situation even though they were the ones who penned the open letter.

Quotes

  • That's why doing plays is so wonderful because nobody cares. I'm working and I'm playing roles that I love and care about and representing the community that I belong to and I fight for.
  • When I read the brief I felt I just had to do this role; I was drawn to it immediately.
  • I've never seen a cis gender person tell a transgender story 100 percent believably. There is a level of authenticity in representation that comes when you have somebody who gets it, feels it in their bones and they have lived it.
  • In the screen industry there is still a sliver of people who say, 'Now that we know you are gay we could not possibly believe that you could be in love with a man.
  • He's not who you would expect to see in prison, but he comes in with his partner and major love of his life, Lou's a former Top Dog of Wentworth and Reb's never been to prison, so he's understandably terrified and timid and shy and gentle.
