Philippe Étancelin was born on December 28, 1896 in Rouen, Seine-Maritime, France. He was married to Suzanne. He died on October 13, 1981 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Paris, Île-de-France, France.

He won the 1934 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Ex-Formula One racing driver, who raced for: Philippe Étancelin privé (1950 (5 GPs)-1951 (5 GPs)), Talbot-Lago (1950 (1 GP)) and Escuderia Bandeirantes (1952 (1 GP)). He started 12 Grands Prix and 3 Points. Best ranked in the World Championship: 18th in 1950.
