Roland Bacon is a French astronomer, former director of the Lyon observatory and a specialist in 3D spectrographs. He designed several instruments, including TIGER, first integral field spectrograph, and MUSE, the multi-unit spectroscopic explorer installed on ESO's Very Large Telescope. In 2020, the Royal Astronomical Society awarded him with the Jackson-Gwilt Medal.
