Biography

A new talent from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, actor/writer Robert Bryn Mann has been a workhorse in the ever-rebuilding Saskatchewan film community since the late 2010's.

Born on November 11th, 1989 in Saskatoon, Robert caught the acting bug while still in grade school, and has a distinct background in small underground theater and performance, where he honed his craft. Being able to produce a singing note that "wasn't horrible," he played roles in many productions, from Sondheim musicals, to abridged Shakespeare, to children's plays, in community theaters and University-level productions. He also participated in choirs on-and-off for over a decade touring, and sang in the 2005 Saskatchewan Centennial, where Queen Elizabeth II was in attendance.

Robert attended the University of Saskatchewan, where he graduated with B.A. in English, minor in Drama.

Robert joined the Knockin' 'Em Dead Improv Comedy Troupe, and stayed as a main performer for a decade, performing improvisational comedy until its dissolution in 2017.

Distancing himself from the stage, Robert wanted to create opportunities for himself, and others, in the realm of film. Despite the Saskatchewan government's cuts in 2012 to an accessible film tax credit, Robert joined forces with Darren Zimmer, Ashley Pachkowsky, Brian James Hildebrand, and Damien Bartlett to co-found Land of Darkest Skies, Creative Works in 2016: a Saskatoon-based writers' creative think-tank, assisting producers with pre-production processes of filmmaking by creating and editing scripted genre content for new and established filmmakers. They branched to mentoring new screenwriters in 2021.

Robert's writing abilities, and his knack for comedy, got him a supporting comedic role as Cousin Ron in the ISee Movies production "The Keepers of Kielbasa," that led to the door opening for a co-starring role with co-founder Darren Zimmer in the The Dream Is Dead Productions film, "Welcome to Kittytown."

During the pandemic, Robert co-starred with Hoyt Richards in "Hell in a Handbasket," a short film by Lee Chambers.

Under Land of Darkest Skies, Creative Works, Robert has worked with Saskatoon's Myriad Entertainment for "The Crowsworld Saga" (cameo acting role, stills/photography). Robert also worked with co-writer Darren Zimmer and Doug Luciuk of The Dream Is Dead Productions for writing their first micro-budget film, "Welcome to Kittytown," assisted with funding from Creative Saskatchewan. Robert also served as a story editor for "The Keepers of Kielbasa."

Robert scored a Quarterfinalist selection in the Screencraft 2020 Horror Competition with a faithful, yet re-imagined and modernized take on H.P. Lovecraft's classic tale "The Call of Cthulhu," during the pandemic.

As of April 2021, he is working through vomit-drafts of several horror films - among his most loved genres to write in, based on his love for Universal Studios monsters, classic Showa- and Heisei-era Godzilla films, and 80's horror films he was most likely too young to watch at the time!
