Biography

RaMell Ross was born on May 15, 1982 in Frankfurt, Germany. He is a cinematographer and director, known for Nickel Boys (2024), Hale County This Morning, This Evening (2018) and Easter Snap (2019).

Ross attended Georgetown University in Washington D.C. where he played basketball as a point guard, later the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence where he studied visual arts, and then became a teacher of film at Brown University also in Providence.

RaMell Ross was nominated for a 2019 Academy Award in the Best Documentary (Feature) category for his work on Hale County This Morning, This Evening (2018) but lost to Jimmy Chin & Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi for Free Solo (2018).
