Biography

Sam Rawlins began making films in middle school. In a funny coincidence, he used a program called SAM Animation to make stop motion shorts with figures built out of clay. Later on as a junior in high school, he took his first "official" film class, International Baccalaureate Film SL, at Fairview High School. In this class, he made friends that he continues to work with today. They are all dedicated to the art and connected by a unanimous passion for film.



Sam is currently a sophomore at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California. Recently, his film A Penny Saved was accepted into the Academy's Next Up Festival in the editing category. In 2020, he will receive his BFA in Motion Picture and Television with a focus on Cinematography. Currently, Sam operates the Panasonic GH4 for his projects, and edits using Adobe Premiere Pro CC and Da Vinci Resolve. He has, however, gotten the chance to work with the Arri Alexa and Ursa Mini cameras during his time on sets at New York University, which he attended from 2016-2017, and at the Academy of Art University.

Alongside his good friend Evan Groover, Sam Rawlins has started a production company called Gone Filming Productions LLC. They have shot, edited, and released their first feature length film, Fireside, which incorporates Sam's stop motion animation, much like the stop motion that he did at the beginning of his filmmaking career. After Sam graduates from AAU, his ideal work situation is at Gone Filming. In the meantime, however, he will hopefully work at another production company, either in the producing department, camera department, or as an editor.
