Henry 'Hank' Mobley(1930-1986)

Henry "Hank" Mobley was an American tenor saxophonist and composer, known for his work in hard bop and soul jazz. Mobley recorded prolifically in the late '50s and early '60s, and was famously described as the "middleweight champion of the tenor" referring to his style and tone. Mobley was a founding member of The Jazz Messengers, along with Horace Silver and Art Blakey. He replaced John Coltrane in the Miles Davis Quintet and recorded with Dizzy Gillespie, Jackie McLean, Max Roach, Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard, Kenny Dorham, Milt Jackson, Kenny Burrell, Donald Byrd, Sonny Clark, Houston Person, Grant Green, Art Farmer, Kenny Drew, Herbie Hancock, J.J. Johnson, Elvin Jones, Archie Shepp, Jimmy Smith and Johnny Griffin. He recorded over thirty albums as a leader for the Blue Note, Savoy and Prestige labels.
