Morteza Atabaki is an Iranian photographer and documentary filmmaker based in Istanbul. He began his artistic career in theatre, working as a stage design assistant to renowned Iranian director Ali Rafiei before becoming a theatre photographer and poster designer, creating visual work for more than one hundred productions and receiving several awards at major theatre festivals in Iran.
In 2011, he collaborated with Abbas Kiarostami on photography and exhibition projects and attended his masterclasses. After moving to Turkey in 2013, Atabaki expanded his practice into film photography and behind-the-scenes documentary filmmaking. Among his notable works is a six-hour documentary on the making of The Wild Pear Tree by Nuri Bilge Ceylan.
His short documentary Alien (2017) received the Jury Prize at the Leipzig Film Festival. 32 Meters is his first feature documentary.
