Frances Gumley

  • She was the first female editor of a broadsheet in the UK.
  • She is a descendant of Peter and Elizabeth Gumley, cabinet makers and John Gumley (c.1670-1728) a cabinet maker and looking glass maker who introduced bevelling to England. John Gumley's children John (the younger) (c.1695-c.1749) was a glass manufacturer, East India merchant and politician, Samuel (c.1698-1763) was an army officer and Anna Maria (c.1694-1758) married William Pulteney, 1st Earl of Bath .
