Biography

Sina Dolati is an Iranian-Canadian filmmaker based in Toronto, Canada and born in Rasht, Iran. Sina's short films, music videos, and VR work has been showcased in over 40 film festivals in over 10 countries around the world, among those being five Oscar Qualifying festivals including Atlanta Film Festival and Nashville Film Festival. His projects have been featured in the Shiny Awards, Notion, and Directors Notes (UK), Variety (US), Le Temps (Switzerland), and TVE International (Spain).

The narrative music film 'KIANA - wait on me' released in Summer 2023 marks Sina's latest filmmaking endeavor, created with support from the MVP Project grant, presented by the Royal Bank of Canada and the Canadian Academy of Cinema & Television. Utilizing a heavy VFX workflow and a custom built set in studio, the project is set in a dystopian prison in a futuristic (CGI) Tehran, and pays homage to a real life couple who were given a 10 year prison sentence for a video of themselves dancing as an act of resistance within the ongoing protest movements. The video was shortlisted in eight categories including Best Direction and Cultural Impact at the Berlin Commercial festival.

Sina's previous projects include music videos for the Juno-winning band The Halluci Nation (formerly A Tribe Called Red), the narrative VR short Lily's Day, a music video for Big Wreck (Warner Music Canada), the mumblecore dark comedy Terminal Love (Best Screenplay - CyberShorts Film Festival), and the music video ADHD which was named as one of the Top 20 films of 2022 on Directors Notes, Nominated for Best Music Video at Rio Webfest, and screened as part of Leeds and Reading music festivals in August 2022.

Sina is a voting member of the Canadian Academy of Cinema & Television, holds an Honours BSc in Biotechnology from the University of Toronto and a MA in Media Production from Toronto Metropolitan University.
