Biography

Often described as a pixie-sized blend of Jane Lynch, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Robin Wright, Rebecca Dennis is an actor, singer, dancer, single mom, and founder of Laughing Bodies Yoga. At age 11, she got an unusual start in the business: she opened for Anita Bryant at a Bicentennial celebration, belting out "What's More American?" with full conviction and no idea she was opening for one of the country's most outspoken anti-gay activists. In hindsight: "We were not singing about the same America."

After graduating from NYU Tisch and the Stella Adler Conservatory, she walked into her first NYC film audition and booked a supporting role opposite Danny Aiello, Uma Thurman, Rob Lowe, and Matt Dillon. But as it sometimes goes, the film never got made, and Rebecca found herself hoofing it in the Berkshires in productions of "Damn Yankees" and "Nunsense."

She went on to co-create and choreograph 26 episodes of the children's TV show "Pelican Park", where she also starred as Series Regular Punky, a flute-playing, cart-pushing, ever-curious vendor so caught up in helping the park's colorful characters that she never actually sold a thing. Told through storytelling, song, and dance, the show ran for four consecutive years on CBS.

Rebecca then turned to the stage with 16 Equity contracts, including starring as Harold in "Harold and the Purple Crayon" at NYC's The Town Hall as well as the First National Tour; World Premieres of "Early One Evening" at Florida Stage and "Move It and It's Yours" at New Jersey's Passage Theatre. She also had multiple callbacks for Broadway's "Titanic" and Rob Marshall's "Cabaret".

Her Act 2 creations include a fully-launched son (now 25 years old) and Laughing Bodies Yoga - born from a brick-and-mortar studio in rural Tennessee and expanding to San Diego, 40+ retreats, and dozens of trained teachers.

She returned to film with a lead role in the dark comedy "Smashed". Her portrayal of a self-involved home-shopping host unraveling on live TV helped garner multiple awards for the film, including Best Comedy at the Miami Indie Film Festival and the Midwest Slam Fest.

On January 20th, 2025, Inauguration Day, she played Ma Ubu in the classic French farce "Ubu Roi", which has long served as a mirror for political absurdity. You can draw your own conclusions.

Rebecca is based in New York, repped on both coasts, and holds a statewide record for 77 hours of labor before giving birth. She can also hold a handstand for 77 seconds.
