Biography

Tony Barea is an actor and writer. He has Spanish roots but was born and raised in Wollongong, NSW. He graduated from The Actor's Pulse full-time course. And recently appeared on the iconic Australian show, Neighbours (1985) in the role of Greg Cantor.

A prolific performer, in 2019 Tony Barea performed in four Stage Plays; Glengarry Glen Ross, True West, A Few Good Good Men, and Picasso at the Lapin Agile. Following up with the world premiere of Pit in early 2020

Tony is also a burgeoning multi-hyphenate, having written the soon-to-be-produced feature film This Is Bliss as well as the play The Cardinal's Sister.

Tony Barea is a Sydney-based actor, writer, and producer of Spanish heritage. Born in Wollongong, NSW, he trained extensively in the Meisner Technique and graduated from The Actor's Pulse full-time course. His screen appearances include Neighbours (as Greg Cantor), Last King of the Cross, and One Night.

On stage, Tony has delivered acclaimed performances across a diverse repertoire, from Jay Conway in the sold-out production of Ulster American to Father March in Little Women, Henry in Cosi, and Reverend Parris in The Crucible. Earlier stage highlights include Glengarry Glen Ross, True West, A Few Good Men, Picasso at the Lapin Agile, and the world premiere of Pit. He also performed in the immersive Razor Gang Wars (2023) in Sydney's historic crypt of St. James Church.

As a writer, Tony has authored the memoir One Day I Will Tell the Truth - You Have to Be Crazy and is developing its companion one-man show The Chosen One. His screenwriting includes the feature film This Is Bliss and the stage play The Cardinal's Sister, which he adapted into a feature-length screenplay.

Tony is also an emerging producer, with credits including Turner (2025), Youth, and co-producer of Walking Alone. He is passionate about bringing important stories to life, fostering projects that engage audiences and spark meaningful dialogue.

Beyond his creative practice, Tony is an active advocate for the screen and theatre community. He serves as a Board Member of Screen Illawarra, supporting the growth of the region's screen industry, and as Vice President of Wollongong Workshop Theatre, where he has led successful infrastructure and funding initiatives.

A dual citizen of Australia and Spain, Tony holds a Spanish passport, enabling him to work freely across Europe. His work reflects a deep commitment to telling powerful Australian stories with global resonance.
