Biography

Matt Owens is an acclaimed writer, producer, and showrunner known for creating large-scale, character-driven genre storytelling across television and film, spanning both original and established franchises. Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, he began his career in the Marvel Television universe, writing on Netflix's Luke Cage, Marvel's crossover event The Defenders, and multiple seasons of ABC's long-running hit Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. He went on to create, showrun, and executive produce Netflix's live-action One Piece, based on the longest-running manga in Japanese history, which became a global breakout for the streamer, earning strong fan and critical response while introducing the property to new audiences at scale and earning him a WGA Award. Most recently, he is developing an anime series with digital creator IShowSpeed and Big Shot Pictures.
