Ariel Orama López

Ariel Orama López qualified for the Oscars (Academy Screening Room) in the Short Film Categories in 2020, 2021, 2023, 2024, and 2025. He made history: Ariel created, directed, and produced Puerto Rican's first multi-awarded animated film, OSKÄR (2025), sharing the spirit of the Island with festivals worldwide. He represented his country at the following venues: The American Pavilion during Cannes (2022), Animation in Cannes (2023), World of Film - Cannes (2024), World of Film - Venice Production Bridge during the Venice Biennale (2024), and Animaze: Animation in Cannes & miCannes (2025). Ariel has earned more than 200 international laurels and 50 awards in the period of 2009-2026, beginning his career as an independent director in 2009 and as an actor in 2001. He has screened several projects consecutively at the Grauman Theater on Hollywood Boulevard, California, through festival selections, becoming the first Puerto Rican animation and life action director/ leading actor to achieve these milestones in the Short Film category between 2018 and 2026. Ariel has received awards in performing arts, including Best Direction, Best Leading Actor, Best Concept, Best Short Film, Best Original Short Film, Best Edition, Best Creative Short Film, Best Animated Short Film, Best Diversity Short Film, Best Composition, and Best Script. With the animated film script FOREVER PRINCËNEY ©2026, in Cannes city, Orama López earned his 200th laurel. Ariel continues to expand the boundaries between psychology, cinema, literature, music, and technology, crafting works where meaningful narratives, universal vision, and innovation converge. Orama López returned to Cannes in May 2026 for the AI Film Awards, participating in special events along the Croisette. His work as an Arthouse and Independent Director was featured in both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety during the 2026 Cannes edition. Recently featured in Variety and The Hollywood Reporter Cannes Edition 2026, he was highlighted as a Best Arthouse Filmmaker and one of the Best Independent Artists of 2026. With a trajectory of more than 200 laurels and 50 awards (between 2009 and 2026 period), he has solidified his presence as a steady Caribbean force within the global independent and arthouse film scene.
