Biography

Lawrence F. O'Brien was born on July 7, 1917 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He died on September 28, 1990 in New York, New York, USA.

He was instrumental in winning approval for legislation introduced by the White House, including the bills creating the Peace Corps and Medicare, and the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

President John F. Kennedy announced O'Brien's appointment as special assistant to the President for congressional relations and personnel on January 2, 1961. O'Brien also was put in charge of scouting for the new administration.
