Joan Girbau Xalabarder

Joan Girbau Xalabarder was born on April 27, 1991, in Barcelona, Spain. From an early age, Joan showed a deep interest in arts. As a kid, he won several drawing and painting awards. He started filming at the age 10 with a MiniDV camera from his parents. From then on, he started to fantasize with reality shooting his first short film with some friends when he was 12. During school, he was interested in things others didn't pay attention to. Once he reached high school, he started studying sciences. When having to pick a university degree, he deeply thought on studying architecture. His mind told him so, but his heart made a last minute movement. He finally decided to study Audiovisual Communication at the International University of Catalonia (UIC), as it was somehow more related to Filmmaking. Joan has worked as Director and Cinematographer in a wide variety of projects, from corporate videos and commercials for Mango, Massimo Dutti or local businesses to independent documentaries and short films. He has worked in international projects that have been shot in Spain, Uganda, Greece, France or USA among others.
