Johnny Ray Gibbs is an American actor, filmmaker, educator, and Master Electrician. Originally from Atlanta, Georgia, he now resides in Pearland, Texas.
Gibbs began his involvement in the entertainment industry with background acting work in Florida during the 1980s, establishing an early connection to film and television that continued throughout his career.
Gibbs is known for his work in the thriller Jurica Road (2020), The Shipment (2021), Narco Sub, American Trash (2024), and the television series Queen of the South (2019). He also worked on the set of The Highwaymen (2019), starring Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson. During the production, Gibbs met actor David Born, who later appeared in Gibbs's directorial debut, Old Man Jackson (2023).
Gibbs made his feature directorial debut with the comedy Old Man Jackson (2023), starring David Born and Kathy Garver, best known for her role as Cissy in the classic television series Family Affair. The film also features veteran actors Richard Riehle, Butch Patrick of The Munsters, Lorelei Linklater, daughter of filmmaker Richard Linklater, Robert LaSardo, and Artie Pasquale of The Sopranos.
Following his directorial debut, Gibbs continued developing feature-film projects while expanding his work as a writer and filmmaker. His current projects include the crime-drama novel Mr. Blue and the short comedy film You-Lie-Ogy (Eulogy).
Outside of entertainment, Gibbs is a Master Electrician by trade. His professional background combines skilled trades, education, and the arts. He teaches at Premiere High School in Houston, Texas, and also teaches electrical studies part-time at Lamar State College.
Gibbs attended the Rusche College of Business at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. His career encompasses acting, filmmaking, writing, skilled trades, and education.
He is married to a nurse practitioner and has three daughters and a son, four granddaughters, and a grandson.
