Biography

Jeanine S. Ruiz

Biography

  • Born on 12th April, 1992, Jeanine S. Ruiz began life in the world of music at the young age of six when she first tried her hand at the cuatro. She obtained a BA Degree in Musical Arts at The University of the West Indies and graduated with First Class Honours in 2014.

Although she has 12 years of experience (as at 2017) holding many roles in the music industry, including Composer, Arranger, Musical Director, Producer, Sound Engineer and Performer, her passion has always been composing for film. That opportunity found her in 2016 when the director / producer of the feature film The Cutlass (2017) discovered her music on YouTube, and asked her to score the film.

She lives in Trinidad and Tobago.
    - IMDb mini biography by: Stephanie Boodoo
  • Jeanine embodies music through her multifaceted roles as a composer, arranger, musical director, producer, audio engineer, and performer. Growing up in the multicultural island of Trinidad & Tobago and neighboring Caribbean islands, she was immersed in African, Indian, Indigenous, Latin, and European influences that shaped her diverse musical foundation.

A First-Class Honors graduate with a BA in Musical Arts from the University of the West Indies, Jeanine has collaborated with notable artists and ensembles as a musical director and keyboardist, scored and arranged works for the Trinidad & Tobago National Philharmonic Orchestra, and produced and debuted her EP, This Is Me, alongside various collaborations. In 2015, her final-year university project was discovered, leading to her first feature film score for The Cutlass (2017). She went on to arrange and compose the soundtracks for two documentary films commissioned by Cornell University, which were featured at the BlackStar Film Festival (2025), along with other award-winning short films.

Jeanine is a recipient of a New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Grant 2025, supporting her project Anatomic Frequencies: a multidisciplinary body of work presented through three immersive events at the Brooklyn Public Library, Prospect Park, and Tropicalfete Cultural Landmark. Each space was uniquely curated, transforming public environments into sensory experiences where her album was presented alongside cinematography and visual art, inviting audiences into moments of reflection, movement, and connection.

Jeanine is a founding member of Agendr Audio, a nonprofit organization in Trinidad and Tobago that supports women and underrepresented communities in audio through education, mentorship and professional development initiatives.

Through her work with Tropicalfete as a musical arranger for the Steel Ensemble and supervisor of the after-school music program, supporting emerging musicians through culturally rooted music education, Jeanine has been recognized with four citations from New York City and New York State arts councils (2025).
