In the aftermath of India's upset victory over the West Indies to claim the 1983 World Cup, the pace quartet comprising of Joel Garner, Michael Holding, Malcolm Marshall and Andy Roberts, supported by Winston Davis, on its return tour of India in late 1983 specifically targeted Amarnath and reduced him to a shocking return of 1 run in 6 innings, resulting in Amarnath being dropped midway across the 6 test series.

Member of the Indian National Cricket Team(1969-88). Although India played 119 tests in the mentioned time span, Amarnath appeared in only 69 of them due to his frequent clashes with the Board Of Cricket Control In India.

Man-of-the-Match for his all-round performances which helped India win both the semifinals against England and the finals against the West Indies of the 1983 World Cup. Amarnath was also India's vice-captain under good friend and legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev.

Wisden Cricketer Of The Year 1982.

Infamously called Indian selectors as "A bunch of jokers" which led to his ouster from the team and international retirement. Ironically, Amarnath himself served on the panel during the late 1990s and early 2000s.
