Ryan was born Ryan Carlos Castro in New Orleans, Louisiana to Marybel Castro, a creole chef, and Carlos Castro, master machinist and Army veteran. His mother, who is from Costa Rica, is Baptist and of Latin descent. His father, who is from Honduras, is Baptist and of Mayan Indian ancestry. He is the brother of singer Joni Cass.
He currently attends Louisiana State University on a full scholarship, where he studies communications. By the encouragement and support of his family and friends, he continues to follow his passions in film, acting, and writing.
