Raffaelo Mancini earned a measure of fame while serving as a diver aboard the Italian salvage ship Artiglio in the 1930s. Encased in a primitive, pressurized diving suit, he was one of the divers who descended numerous times to the wreck of the ocean liner S.S. Egypt to find and recover her cargo of gold and silver.
