Sister-in-law of Charles Steven "Chad" Paine III (Erin Bates's husband, Whitney Eileen Bates (nee Perkins, Zach Bates's wife), John Elliot Webster (Alyssa Bates's husband) and Brandon Timothy Keilen (Michaela Bates's husband).

(December 16, 2017) Married her boyfriend of 13 months Bobby Smith at Calvary Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee, following a 3-month-long engagement. They were surrounded by their families and friends - including the entire Duggar family - minus Jinger. In total, 700 people attended the wedding. Bates and Smith met in 2015 through a mutual friend and officially began courting in November 2016. The relationship was long-distance until Smith graduated from college this year and moved to Tennessee to be closer to Bates.

Seventh child out of nineteen children in the family of Gil Bates and Kelly Jo Bates.

Has eight nephews and nieces: Bradley Gilvin Bates (b. October 29, 2014, Zach and Whitney's son), Allie Jane Webster (b. April 11, 2015, John and Alyssa's daughter), Charles Steven "Carson" Paine IV (b. May 14, 2015, Chad and Erin's son), Kaci Lynn Bates (b.
