Biography

Thomas Gardner is a multi-award winning filmmaker who occupies a space in British independent cinema defined by regional, ethically driven, micro-budget historical filmmaking - closer to the social-realist and documentary traditions than to commercial indie or heritage cinema.

Regarded as a modern-day auteur, Gardner writes, produces and directs all of his films - sometimes even handling the cinematography himself and is known for his symmetrical framing, long takes and hard hitting narratives.

He frequently turns his lens toward historical events and their impact on human memory - especially where those events have shaped collective understanding, emphasising how individuals and groups experience, internalise, and narrate the past.
