Journalist, diplomat, author and politician, defeated vice-presidential candidate in 1892. His daughter married into aristocratic English society and his son and grandsons continued as publishers of the New York Tribune. His grandson Ogden Rogers Reid ( Manhattan 24 June 1925- 2 March 2019, Waccabuc, New York) was also a congressman and and ambassador to Israel.
