Biography

Named one of Inside Films ‘Rising Stars’ and featured in Vogue Australia’s ‘Celebration of Australian Excellence’ issue, Imogen McCluskey is an award-winning filmmaker based between Sydney, Brisbane and London.

Imogen’s debut feature film SUBURBAN WILDLIFE was runner-up for the Audience Award at Sydney Film Festival in 2019, screened at Taormina Film Festival in Sicily and Cinequest Film Festival in California, and she was honored with the Debut Director Award at the London Australian Film Festival. Her second feature NUGGET IS DEAD was produced by Easy Tiger Productions for Stan Australia and CBS Studios. It premiered at #1 on Stan and raked in 2million viewers on CBS on its initial release, and is now available on Paramount+ and Pluto TV in the US. The two lead performances were nominated for Silver Logie Awards.

Imogen recently directed Australian music legend Paul Kelly’s latest music video, RITA WROTE A LETTER, which landed in the Top #10 Youtube Trending Music Videos in Australia.

In 2022, Imogen made her TV debut, directing all 10 half-hour episodes of SOUNDTRACK TO OUR TEENAGE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE for the ABC, receiving a nomination from the Australian Directors Guild Awards. Her short film ATOMIC LOVE screened at the 2020 BFI Flare Festival, OUTFEST LA, Edmonton IFF, Encounters FF, Melbourne Queer Film Festival, and Short of the Week. Imogen’s web series LOVE BUG was funded by Screen Australia and has over 4 million views on TikTok, receiving nominations from the Australian Directors Guild and Australian Writers Guild Awards. Her latest short film RAIN premiered at DeadCenter Film Festival, and screened at AFI Fest, Hollyshorts Film Festival and will premiere online with Film Shortage in 2025.

Imogen graduated from AFTRS in 2017 receiving the prestigious EU award, and earned a Masters of Directing in 2023 from the American Film Institute with support from Screen Australia, the Sloan Foundation, and the American Australian Association.

In 2025, she was selected for the highly competitive Sydney Film Festival PLATFORM Development Incubator, supported by For Films Sake and Screen NSW. In 2024, Imogen was selected to join the Screen Australian Talent NYC delegation to attend the Australian International Screen Forum in New York City. She has directed commercials for global clients including Tinder, Nespresso and The Cancer Council. Her music video SAVANNAH won numerous awards, including BEST AUSTRALIAN MUSIC VIDEO at the Clipped Music Video Festival 2019.

She is a dual UK/Australian citizen.
