Biography

Enni Red is an award-winning UK-based screenwriter, producer, and academic with over two decades of professional experience across Russian and British film and television. Her work centers on characters confronting moral complexity, social inequality, and the fight for human rights, driven by a deep conviction in cinema's power to provoke thought and inspire change.

With more than fifteen years of writing credits for theatre, television, and film in Russia, Enni built an extensive industry foundation spanning roles as script supervisor, production designer, and first assistant director before relocating to the UK to continue her career in Europe.

As a writer-producer, Enni has written, produced, or both a series of short films, including Tomorrow, Make a Wish, Sing, Mummy!, Without, Forbidden, Transgressing, Counterflow, and The Premiere, which have been officially selected by international film festivals, screened around the world, and earned multiple awards and nominations. Her most acclaimed short, Transgressing (2023), is a modernization of a chapter from Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment, exploring contemporary social issues including education, poverty, and family in modern Britain. The film emerged from her doctoral practice-based research and went on to receive significant international festival recognition. Beyond her short films, Enni continues to develop feature-length screenplays exploring similar themes of justice and morality, including an adaptation of Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment, co-written with Darren Henderson.

Enni holds a Master's degree with Distinction in Screenwriting from Screen Academy Scotland at Edinburgh Napier University, and completed her PhD in Film at the Lancaster Institute of Contemporary Arts at Lancaster University, where her doctoral research explored film adaptation across historical, national, and gender borders, drawing on Film Studies, Russian Studies, Adaptation Studies, and Creative Writing. She is also a Senior Teaching Associate in Film Practice at Lancaster University, where she teaches Film Studies, film practice, and a screenwriting course.

Enni is co-founder of The Bay International Film Festival in Morecambe, North West England, a growing annual event dedicated to socially conscious independent cinema.
