DIE HEXEN is an Irish Academy Award-winning composer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, performer and sound designer, known for crafting dark, bold, and unforgettable scores that blur the line between music and sound design. The first non-male composer in history to win both the IFTA and SITGES Film Festival awards for "Best Original Score," for a feature film, their work has been hailed by legendary critic Mark Kermode as "brilliantly indescribable," while The New York Times aptly described their sonic signature as sounding "like Satan’s playlist."
Hailing from the mythic north coast of Ireland, their breakthrough, IFTA-winning work on the first Irish-language horror Fréwaka (2024) drew widespread acclaim, with filmmaker Mike Flanagan (The Fall of the House of Usher) lauding its "wicked tone" and Variety praising the "imaginative, offbeat" quality that has made HEXEN integral to the new wave of Irish horror.
Other notable credits include the Royal Television Society Award-winning score for the BBC/Virgin Media dark comedy series Video Nasty (2025), and nominations for the Music & Sound Awards 2025 and the Irish Film & Television Academy Awards for Double Blind and You Are Not My Mother. Additionally, they have been four-times Oscar long-listed for Inside, The Valley Sings; Lamb; Saul & I; and Stigma. They were also nominated for the inaugural NI Creator of the Year prize in 2025, and have been selected to represent Ireland at the 2026 Camille Awards (European Film Composer Awards) for scoring Fréwaka.
Beyond their career as a composer, HEXEN is also the writer / director of the short films AM I DEAD and the IFTA nominated EL HOR. The latter also earned them Best Experimental Film at ECU Paris and a Michael Dwyer Discovery Award at the 2019 Dublin International Film Festival, where the jury praised it as "a phenomenal calling-card for a blazing new talent, one we keenly anticipate seeing more from in the future."
They hold both Irish and UK citizenship.
